Description

A festive chocolate roll cake that captures the essence of holiday cheer and warmth, perfect for impressing guests and evoking nostalgia during winter celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for cream)
  • Chocolate shavings (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 15×10 inch jelly roll pan and line it with parchment paper.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract, then mix until it forms a smooth batter.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center.
  7. Cool the cake on a wire rack for about 5 minutes, then carefully invert it onto a clean kitchen towel.
  8. Roll the cake gently with the towel, starting from one end, and let it cool completely while rolled.
  9. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  10. Once the cake is cooled, unroll it and spread the whipped cream over the top.
  11. Re-roll the cake without the towel, then transfer it to a serving platter.
  12. Frost the outside with the remaining whipped cream and decorate with chocolate shavings for a festive finish.

Notes

Store in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 2 months. For added flavor, infuse whipped cream with peppermint extract or espresso.
