A delicious and easy homemade cake perfect for Valentine’s Day that is customizable and foolproof.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (if making chocolate cake)
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup milk
- 3 large eggs
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Optional: fresh fruits or chocolate decorations
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder (if making chocolate cake), baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine the oil, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter between the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool completely before frosting and decorate with optional toppings.
Notes
Avoid common mistakes such as not preheating the oven or overmixing the batter. For substitutions, applesauce can replace eggs, and coconut or almond milk can be used instead of regular milk.
