Ingredients

  • Ground beef (80/20 fat ratio): 2 pounds
  • Worcestershire sauce: 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic powder: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Butter: 1/2 cup
  • Sweet onion: 1 extra-large
  • Sandwich bread: 12 slices
  • American cheese: 6 slices
  • Swiss cheese: 6 slices
  • Yellow mustard: 2 tablespoons
  • Salt and pepper: To taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Form the mixture into six equal-sized patties.
  4. Add butter to the grill pan and allow it to melt. Place the patties in the pan and cook for about 5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
  5. While the patties are cooking, slice the sweet onion. Add them to the pan and caramelize until soft and translucent.
  6. Once cooked, remove the patties and onions from the pan. Wipe the pan clean and add more butter if necessary.
  7. On each slice of sandwich bread, spread a layer of yellow mustard.
  8. Layer a slice of Swiss cheese and a beef patty on each slice of bread, followed by caramelized onions and a slice of American cheese.
  9. Top with another slice of bread to form a sandwich.
  10. Grill each side of the sandwich in the pan until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted.
  11. Remove from the pan, cut in half, and serve with the secret sauce on the side.

Notes

  • Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature before starting for more even cooking.
  • Use freshly grated cheese for better melting quality.
  • Toast the bread lightly before assembling if you prefer extra crispiness.
  • Avoid pressing down on the patties while they cook to maintain juiciness.
