Description
A hearty, comforting casserole with layers of seasoned ground beef, sliced potatoes, creamy soup, and melty cheddar cheese, finished with crispy fried onions for a satisfying crunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 4 medium russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 8 oz cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 can (10 oz) cream of chicken soup
- 1 can (10 oz) cream of potato soup
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Creole seasoning (or a mix of paprika, salt, and pepper)
- ⅓ cup crispy French fried onions
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef. Add diced onions and cook until soft and fragrant. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and Creole seasoning. Remove from heat.
- In a mixing bowl, combine cream of chicken soup, cream of potato soup, and milk. Mix until smooth.
- Layer the casserole: Start with half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom of the dish, followed by half of the beef mixture, half of the soup mixture, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Repeat all layers.
- Top with crispy French fried onions.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil and continue baking for another 15–20 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving for easier slicing and better flavor.
Notes
You can substitute ground turkey or sausage for the beef. For a lighter version, use low-fat soup and cheese. Add sliced mushrooms or peas for extra veggies.
