Description
Tanghulu is a delightful Chinese treat that combines the sweetness of fruits with a crunchy candy coating, perfect for celebrations or as a fun dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 lb strawberries, grapes, or other fruit of choice (~30 pieces)
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Wash the fruit thoroughly and pat it dry with a clean towel. Remove any leaves, stems, or parts that you can’t eat.
- Place the fruit onto skewers, adding up to three pieces of fruit on each skewer.
- In a small pot, mix the sugar and water. Set the heat to low or medium, bring to a boil, and let it simmer until thick and amber (about 10 to 20 minutes).
- To test, drizzle syrup into ice water; if it hardens quickly, it’s ready.
- Quickly dip the fruit skewers into the syrup, then swirl and dip into ice water to cool and harden.
- Place skewers on a plate and repeat with remaining fruit.
Notes
Work quickly to prevent the syrup from burning and ensure you dry the fruit well for better adhesion.
