Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs Ground Beef
  • 1/2 lb Ground Italian Sausage
  • 1 small Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tbsp parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Filling:
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup spinach, chopped (optional)
  • 1/4 cup marinara sauce
  • Topping:
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, eggs, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, parsley, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Flatten the meat mixture on parchment paper into a rectangle.
  4. Spread mozzarella cheese and optional spinach over the middle, drizzle with marinara sauce.
  5. Roll the meat mixture into a loaf, seal the edges, and transfer to a baking dish.
  6. Bake for 50 minutes. Remove, spread topping of marinara sauce and Parmesan cheese.
  7. Return to oven, bake for another 10 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  8. Let rest before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute beef and sausage with turkey or chicken.
  • Customize fillings with roasted red peppers or sun-dried tomatoes.
