Description

Delightful cookies combining the flavors of red velvet cake with a chewy texture and elegant powdered sugar dusting.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar for rolling


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the sugar and oil until smooth. Add the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla; mix until combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. The dough will be sticky.
  5. Refrigerate the dough for about 30 minutes to firm up.
  6. Roll the chilled dough into balls and then roll in powdered sugar until fully coated.
  7. Place the balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them a few inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cookies are set but still soft in the middle.
  9. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chill the dough for the best texture. Use gel food coloring for a richer hue.
