Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds flank steak
 - ¼ cup cornstarch
 - ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce
 - ½ cup water
 - ½ cup packed brown sugar
 - ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
 - 3 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
 - 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
 - 4 cloves garlic (minced)
 - 4 green onions (cut into 2-inch pieces)
 - 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions
- Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness.
 - In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes (if using); set aside.
 - Sprinkle the cornstarch over the sliced beef. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add half of the beef and cook until browned, then remove. Repeat with remaining beef.
 - Add the remaining vegetable oil to the same pan, and sauté minced ginger and garlic for about 30 seconds.
 - Pour the sauce mixture into the pan with the ginger and garlic, stir well, and add the cooked beef back into the pan. Cook for a few minutes until the sauce thickens.
 - Add the green onions and stir everything together once more.
