Description
A delicious and easy-to-prepare dish that combines umami flavors of mushrooms with rich miso, perfect as a hearty side or main course over rice.
Ingredients
- 500g fresh mushrooms (shiitake, cremini, or button)
- 3 tablespoons miso paste (white or red)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
- Optional: chili flakes for extra heat
Instructions
- Gently wipe the mushrooms with a damp cloth to remove any dirt.
- Depending on their size, either halve or slice the mushrooms into uniform pieces.
- In a large skillet, heat the sesame oil over medium heat until it shimmers.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Toss the sliced mushrooms into the skillet and stir to coat. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until tender.
- In a small bowl, mix the miso paste and soy sauce with warm water to create a smooth sauce.
- Pour the miso sauce over the mushrooms. Stir to combine and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Taste and adjust seasoning; add chili flakes if desired.
- Remove from heat, garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, and serve warm.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
