How to Make Italian Sub Roll-Up
Ingredients
- 4 Slices Genoa Salami
- 4 Slices Mortadella
- 4 Slices Sopressata
- 4 Slices Pepperoni
- 4 Slices Provolone (omit for dairy-free option)
- Paleo Lime Mayo or store-bought mayo (we love Chosen Foods Avocado Oil Mayo)
- Shredded Lettuce
- Extra toppings (our favorites are banana peppers, jalapeño peppers, roasted red peppers, and black olives, if desired)
- Avocado Oil or Olive Oil
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Italian Seasoning
- Toothpicks
Directions
- Start by layering the meat slices from largest to smallest. For the brand we use (Boar’s Head), the order would be:
- Genoa Salami
- Mortadella
- Sopressata
- Pepperoni
- Spread a thin layer of mayo over the meat stack, leaving space at the top of the largest piece to prevent the filling from spilling out when rolling.
- Place a slice of provolone on top of the mayo, positioned halfway down.
- Add a small handful of shredded lettuce on the lower half of the stack. You can also add any extra toppings you like.
- Keep the toothpicks nearby for easy access. Starting from the bottom of the cheese, carefully roll the stack tightly while pushing in any fillings that might try to escape.
- Once rolled, use a toothpick to secure the outer edges of the meat.
- To serve, mix 2 parts oil with 1 part vinegar in a small dipping bowl. Sprinkle some Italian seasoning over the top. Enjoy dipping your roll-ups in the oil and vinegar mixture!
- Store any leftovers in the fridge, wrapped individually in plastic wrap, for up to a week. These roll-ups also make for great school lunches.
How to Serve Italian Sub Roll-Up
These Italian Sub Roll-Ups are best served fresh. You can present them on a platter, with a small bowl of the oil and vinegar dip alongside. They make for a colorful and appetizing dish that friends and family will love. If you’re preparing for a gathering, you can cut them into smaller pieces for bite-sized snacks.
How to Store Italian Sub Roll-Up
If you have any roll-ups left over, wrap them individually in plastic wrap and store them in the refrigerator. They will stay fresh for up to a week. This is great for quick snacks or lunches throughout the week.
Tips to Make Italian Sub Roll-Up
- Make sure to leave some space at the top when spreading mayo to avoid squishing out the filling.
- Feel free to mix and match your favorite meats and toppings to create a new flavor combination.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, consider adding more jalapeño or hot peppers.
- For a low-carb option, you can serve the roll-ups with lettuce instead of the traditional toppings.
Variation
For a vegetarian option, you can completely skip the meats and opt for roasted vegetables, cheese alternatives, or hummus spreads. This keeps the flavor but makes it suitable for different diets.
