Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup hot water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- Cream the butter and brown sugar in another bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, then stir in molasses.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with hot water.
- Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
