  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup hot water


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. Cream the butter and brown sugar in another bowl until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, then stir in molasses.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with hot water.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
