A hearty dish combining creamy potatoes, sweet caramelized onions, and melted cheese, perfect for family dinners or special occasions.
Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 large onions, caramelized
- 2 cups shredded cheese (such as Gruyère or Swiss)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh thyme for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a buttered baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom.
- Layer half of the caramelized onions over the potatoes and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Add half of the shredded cheese on top.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, and cheese.
- Pour the heavy cream evenly over the top layer.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
- Let it cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh thyme.
Notes
For easier caramelization, slice the onions thinly and cook them slowly over low heat. Feel free to mix different types of cheese for added flavor.
