Description

A rich, sweet, and buttery Southern-style pecan cobbler with a crisp golden topping and gooey caramel center. No mixing required after layering — the magic happens in the oven!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup chopped or halved pecans
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • Optional: pinch of cinnamon, splash of bourbon, or drizzle of maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Pour the melted butter into a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the self-rising flour, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter over the melted butter in the dish. Do not stir.
  5. Sprinkle both granulated and brown sugars evenly over the top of the batter.
  6. Distribute the chopped or halved pecans evenly over the sugar layer.
  7. Carefully pour the boiling water over the entire mixture. Do not stir.
  8. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and bubbling.
  9. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

This cobbler forms its own caramel sauce as it bakes. For an extra boost of flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of bourbon to the batter.
