Ingredients
- 5 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until softened.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, half of the sautéed onions and garlic, and a layer of cheddar cheese.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, salt, pepper, onions, garlic, and top with the last of the cheese and Parmesan.
- Pour heavy cream evenly over the top of the layered potatoes.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.

You can experiment with different types of cheese for varied flavors. For added richness, include cooked bacon or ham in the layers.
