Description

Ingredients

  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 100g unsalted butter
  • 4 large eggs
  • 150g sugar
  • 100g all-purpose flour
  • 50g cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 250ml heavy cream
  • 50g icing sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Icing sugar for dusting


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Melt the dark chocolate and butter together in a bowl until smooth.
  3. Whisk the eggs and sugar in a separate bowl until pale and foamy.
  4. Fold the melted chocolate mixture into the egg and sugar mixture.
  5. Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder, and fold to combine.
  6. Line a baking tray with parchment paper, spread the batter evenly, and smooth with a spatula.
  7. Bake for about 20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let the sponge cool on a wire rack.
  9. Whip the heavy cream with icing sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
  10. Spread the whipped cream over the cooled sponge and roll it up carefully.
  11. Dust with icing sugar before serving.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature eggs and be patient with the cooling process to avoid cracks.
