Description

A delightful twist on a classic Chinese barbecue favorite featuring tender chicken marinated in a sweet and savory sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Scallions for garnish
  • Rice or noodles for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, five-spice powder, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil.
  2. Marinate the chicken in the sauce for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight for deeper flavor.
  3. Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat.
  4. Remove the chicken from the marinade, reserving the marinade for later.
  5. Grill or bake the chicken until fully cooked and caramelized, brushing with the reserved marinade occasionally.
  6. Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before slicing.
  7. Serve it over rice or noodles, garnished with scallions.

Notes

For best flavor, marinate overnight. Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken reaches 165°F.
