Description
Delightfully soft and buttery pretzel bites that are perfect for sharing and elevate any gathering.
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for topping)
Instructions
- In a bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until the dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Cover the dough and allow it to rise for about an hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add the baking soda.
- Cut the risen dough into small pieces and shape them into bites.
- Carefully boil the bites in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then transfer them to a baking sheet.
- Brush the bites with an egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
Refrigerate leftovers for 3–4 days at 40°F. For longer storage, freeze the pretzel bites in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Reheat them in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes to restore their texture.
