Description

Black Pepper Chicken is a flavor-packed dish with a peppery kick, perfect for busy weeknights or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breasts, sliced against the grain into 1/4-inch thick pieces
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine
  • 2 teaspoons dark soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons coarsely ground black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons peanut oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 white onion, chopped
  • 2 bell peppers, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the chicken, light soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and cornstarch. Mix well and marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, light soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, dark soy sauce, cornstarch, sugar, black pepper, and salt to prepare the sauce.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of peanut oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add marinated chicken and cook until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate.
  4. In the same skillet, add the remaining oil, ginger, and garlic. Sauté until fragrant, then add onion and bell peppers. Cook for 20 seconds until soft.
  5. Stir the sauce mixture and pour it into the skillet with vegetables. Cook until the sauce thickens.
  6. Add the chicken back into the skillet and stir to coat with the sauce. Turn off the heat.
  7. Transfer to a serving plate and serve hot.

Notes

Serve over rice or noodles, or in lettuce wraps. Garnish with fresh herbs or chopped green onions.
