Description

A hearty shepherd’s pie featuring rich flavors and a creamy topping, perfect for chilly evenings and family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat, add ground meat, onion, and carrots. Cook until browned and vegetables are tender (5-7 minutes).
  3. Stir in peas, beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
  4. Transfer the filling to a baking dish, layer in the meat mixture, and top with mashed potatoes.
  5. If desired, sprinkle shredded cheese over the top of the mashed potatoes.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crispy on top.
  7. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Use leftover mashed potatoes for a quick topping. For a creamier mash, mix in butter, milk, or sour cream.
