A hearty shepherd’s pie featuring rich flavors and a creamy topping, perfect for chilly evenings and family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef or lamb
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 4 cups mashed potatoes
- 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat, add ground meat, onion, and carrots. Cook until browned and vegetables are tender (5-7 minutes).
- Stir in peas, beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Transfer the filling to a baking dish, layer in the meat mixture, and top with mashed potatoes.
- If desired, sprinkle shredded cheese over the top of the mashed potatoes.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crispy on top.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Use leftover mashed potatoes for a quick topping. For a creamier mash, mix in butter, milk, or sour cream.
