Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef or lamb, chopped onion, and diced carrots. Cook until the meat is browned and vegetables are tender (5-7 minutes).
  3. Stir in the frozen peas, beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
  4. Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish and layer evenly. Top with mashed potatoes, spreading them to cover the filling.
  5. If desired, sprinkle shredded cheese on top of the mashed potatoes.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Customize the recipe with leftover mashed potatoes or a spicy kick with red pepper flakes.
